i run into this problem all the time, ive been chased out of areas with nothing more than a camera for "Disturbing habitat" how can a ranger tell me i cant go somewhere on public property?. i really dont have any answers for you. from what ive found there is no laws against handling wild reptiles but rangers think everyone but them is endagering the wildlife. my only suggestion, be more secretive in your work. when i go herping i carry my backpack and camera i dont bring any obvious things like hooks, nets, etc. and when you see a ranger simply wave and smile :) fact is i have yet to have a freindly experiance with a ranger and my recent attempts to gain their help saving some wildlife in a local park left me with a bad feeling.
