Black Throat monitor enclosure question

Posted by madeleine on May 08, 2003 at 15:23:22:

I recently had to put my Sav down due to cancer. Now I'm thinking about acquiring a Black Throat monitor, but I have a question about space requirements. Could a Black Throat live comfortably in a 10' or 11' long enclosure that is only 3' deep? The enclosure would be L-shaped (well, an L on it's side), with 6' of the length having a ceiling height of only 2' and the other 4' or 5' in length having a ceiling height of 6' or so (and could have multiple levels, if it would be of benefit)? If necessary, the tall section of the cage (the 4'-5' length) could be deeper front to back than 3'. The top level of the tall section could also be wider (there's room for an additional 3' of width). I know this sounds unneccesarily complex, but I'm trying to determine if I could build it around a bank of cages I've already built, the bottom level (3' x 6') of which is currently unoccupied. At any rate, I don't intend to acquire one unless the space will be adequate to comfortably house him...or unless I can convince my husband that the "sunroom" (not sunny enough to fry a lizard) would make an excellent lizard room.
