Just received an update from PIJAC. It seems that a law in Ny that requires owners of venomous herps, crocdilians, and constrictors/pythons over 10 feet ( as well as tigers, bears, etc.) must register these animals with their local town clerk as of 4/1/03. The idea is that the town's emergency service providers need to know about potentially dangerous animals if, for example, they were coming to fight a fire. Evidentaly there were a couple of incidents in the Buffalo area where firemen unexpectedly came across tigers in basements!
Fortunately, the more restrictive law which would have BANNED outright the possession of many reptiles and other animals has been defeated.
