Wendy ...take a number!! lol me too..Ive searched and searched these questions out. If ya find a simple answer...please let me know and post it URGENT!
One thing..can't remember how old your ig is..which would help. Calcium supplements benefit igs that 1) aren't fed a high calcium, high fiber diet with variety 2) have some type of illness, disease process going on like kidney disease, mbd, hypocalcemia etc. 3)gravid 4) are babies or juveniles. I think that's it. So...if any of those fit your ig..Id definately supplement with calcium
Now Centrum **sigh** contains calcium phosphate & calcium carbonate (not the best nor the most soluble(absorbable) calcium source out there. Its CA:P ratio is maybe less than 1.5:1 It DOES have oodles of other good stuff in it. Esp Vitamin A.
So IF you are looking for a CALCIUM supplement I say ixnay the Centrum but then Melissa advocates it at her site...so...don't let my observations make you reconsider using it. I have used Repti-cal and Minerall (cheap avian mineral block with calcium) and Igs never balked at it. Never heard of Vitolife. Check out Melissa's site...what does she say? ...She has some info there on supplements & about those sold as reptile vitamins says they aren't really reliable as far as listing actual ingredients and amounts I think it was written by S. Donoghue. Anyway......1/4 teaspoon 3xs a week seems to be about standard.
its ok if you overdo it ...not only are reptile vitamins unreliable (exaggerated claims of contents) but most contain calcium carbonate (centrum also) that ONLY contain 40% actual calcium anyway. If its calcium gluconate listed on the label...its far less something like 9% actual calcium. I'd give your ig what ya got...and don't waste money on their product again. If Vit D3 is one of the ingredients of the product just know Igs don't need it but ok to give short term...problems will develop long term..like toxicity. Wendy ...Im sorry I know Im not helping you here....
Try Melissa's site. The information she has on it is...somewhat sound and will give you a good foundation How's that! Im goin to bed ;o)
