: Dino,

: I would love to breed a dog or two and get the chance to enjoy the new borns. But I can't and why not.....because of the action of others, I can't. Millions of dogs are put down or die each year from irresponsible owners. And if I said, I can't be held responsible for the action of others, and just went ahead with what I wanted to do.......I would just be adding to the problem. Let's look at something here, I breed a dog, it has 6 to 10 puppies; at the same time there is 6 to 10 puppies or adult dogs being put to sleep. Now does this make sense? Why bring more into the world, when the ones here, are already too much? Same with iguanas! It's not MY responsiblity for people like that either Dino, but I have no choice. I don't like it either! I'd love to have a little iglet poppin out of a egg too, it would be wonderful. But I can't so easily find the justification like you do, to go ahead and add to the iguana population. If Green Iguana's were endangered I'd be applauding YOU but they are not. But don't get me wrong here Dino, I am, under no way, saying I don't like you! I am just sad that you produce more iguanas is all. If people would just stop producing them until the numbers of iguanas come down and the price goes up, then I see nothing wrong with it. One of the big reasons that the problem with dogs and cats are so bad still; is because there is so many out there free or for a price. I guess there should be a law that if you have a non-fixed dog or cat, you have to have a permit. If you are caught with one that is not fixed, you get a large fine of like $500.00. Maybe this would help slow down the irresponsible keeping of animals and reptiles.
: Dino, we all lose because of action of others, it's part of life. If we just turn our heads to all the deaths.....are we doing the right thing? I ask myself, what can I do to play my part in stopping this. And I come up with not just one but several things. I can assure that I won't produce any offspring, that I will take the time to educate and I will join and volunteer my help with a herp and rescue group to try and stop a death of a iguana. Maybe someday Dino, I too, will get the chance to enjoy breeding and seeing iglets hatching. I can only hope!!

: Harry's Dad

I can not believe that I'm getting into this, but
here goes....
When I was growing up, I always hated to be punished
for what others had done. Like when the teacher says
"Okay! Time for everyone to go inside because
Tommy will not stay out of the dirt." I would always
think "Why not just send Tommy inside if he can not
follow the rules?"
This is more of the same. There are laws in place
to protect animals from abuse. The problem is no
one is inforcing them. It is unlawful to abuse
cats and dogs by neglect. These same laws cover
Igs. The big problem is inforcing the laws that are
in place. Your average "Joe" probably does not
know what a health set up for an Ig is. All that
they see is a "Weird looking beast". They probably
think that Igs are suposed to look that skinny or
that crickets are what they eat.
People in the "know" should be blowing the whistle
on offenders. Keep harassing the authorities until
they decide to act. Or try this, Every local new
sation now has a reporter that fashions themselves
as a "Whistle Blower" or "Corruption stoper". Give
them a chance at the story they want. Tell them
about how only one out of ten baby Igs survive their
first year of life because of neglect. Then tell
them that all they have to do is go to the local
pet store to see the truth about the Ig trade.
There are some people out there making a pretty
good living off of selling Igs and Ig supplies.
Why does this not equal better lives for the Igs?
Think about it, in just the last seven years the
amount of books, magazines, cages, foods and other
products has quadrupled. This is a big business.
Public awareness is what we need to stop Ig abuse,
not more laws.
Does anyone here remember the guy that buried
a litter of puppies alive and few years ago? He
did not want to bother with them so he buried em
alive. Well, the mama dog jumped through a window
and started digging them up. When a neighbor saw
this they called the police and the news. The
S.O.B. got some jail time, the pupies and their
mother got new homes and the Amercian public got
a story that I'm sure most of you have heard.
We need to do this to a Petstore or two. We
need to do this to the county fair that is giving
away Igs as a prize for getting the ball in the
hop to eight year olds. We need to do this to the
Weasle that lets an Ig set in it's own feces for
months living off of only Iceberg lettuce and flies.
This will deter Idiots from getting Igs. This
will make people stop and think before they buy
an Ig for their seven year old child as a
replacement pet for the goldfish that only lasted
two months.
We all see Igs that are being abused, when was the
last time we confronted the Petstore manager or
vender? Told them that they were abusing animals
or reported them. They will start taking care of
their Igs or stop dealing with them if they are
catching flack for abusing them.
I'm truly sorry for being so long winded... I do
not like reading long posts myself... I guess maybe
the fine for nonspaded dogs set me off...
I really think that we should try to inforce
the laws that we have before we start writing new
ones. We should start expossing and punishing
offenders instead of restricting everyone else's freedoms.
Take care all,
one out of breath
Joe III

P.s. I know I misspelled a
few words in this but
I think I got my point
accross
