Don't be so hard on your son. When I was a kid, I was always catching lizards and keeping them for a few days then letting them go. I would catch and raise just about anything. Spiders, snails, slugs, lizards, snakes and so on. I did give my grandparents a scare when I grabbed a copperhead snake and went "Look grandpa! I caught a snake!" while my grandparents were trying to talk me into gently putting down the snake. They were also trying very hard not to tell me that it was a copperhead in case I freaked out. LOL! It must've been a sight. "Now put down that snake.." "No! I wanna keep him! Lookit how big he is!" It's a good thing I grabbed him by the head!
I've pointed out before that I'm a teenager and have an iguana and a blue-tongued skink. Don't say that kids can't take complete responsibility over an animal, because it's not true and an ignorant generalisation. Kids can be just as caring or as cruel as adults.
