My opinion on most commercial diets is that they are totally unacceptable for iguanas. The #1 reason being that iguanas do not have saliva, making the pellets unpalatable, and possibly dangerous to them. Even if soaked, they are seriously lacking in nutrition, and sometimes even contain harmful additives. Also, leaving soaked pellets in the cage is conducive to the breeding of harmful bacteria, especially if the iguana isn't eating them right away!

Here are three links from Melissa Kaplan's page about commercial diets:

There is one that she recommends, which is a moist, canned (I think) commercial diet. It is from a company called Quantum:

Here are two more, which are analyses of diets currently on the market. Very interesting reads!

I promise you, making a fresh, nutritious salad for your iguana need be no more than a monthly/biweekly chore, taking one hour at the most (if you have a chopper of any size).

If you can find a mortar and pestle (I found a marble one last week in the gadget section of TJ Max!!!! HURRY!!! They are the BEST!), it takes even less time. The mortar and pestle is THE absolute best thing I have found to grind up supplements originally meant for humans (Centrum, alfalfa pills, vitamin B-1), and believe me, I have tried everything, including putting them in a plastic bag and smashing them with a hammer! :)

If you are considering pellets as an emergency backup measure, consider those frozen bags of mixed veggies, or better yet, just keep some of a large batch of salad in your freezer. That's where mine resides, anyway.

Please write back and tell what you are currently feeding, and why you want to feed pellets.

Not to be rude, but... what happened to the female you "used to have"?
