In Reply to: Substrate question, please help posted by Da Truth on January 29, 2003 at 08:21:37:

:OK, my girlfriend has two Igs, and she just built them a new enclosure. She wants to have a substrate in the cage, but does not know which way to go. She is toying with several types of substrates. They are:

:1. Lizard Litter, the stuff that looks like grain
:2. Play sand, very cheap and looks good
:3. The orchid bark/Cyprus mulch substrate for lizards, which I use
:4. Dirt, Not one of her fav's, but will use if need be
:5. Pine shavings

:The worry is of impaction, and we would really like to hear some alternate sugestions if these are sub-par substrates, and will directly harm her Igs. News paper may have toxic ink so she refuses to use it. What would really be benefitial is if i can get some experiences with these substrates, good or bad. Any sort of input on these substrates would help greatly, and be much apreciated. Thank you in advance.

:P.S. - Sand seems to be the front runner right now.
