After talking to the person at the shelter yesterday I really
got the feeling that they do not care about reptiles and would
just as soon euthanize to decrease the pet population. To be
completely honest they really do not care about any pets. Every
encounter I have had with the staff makes me believe they are
there to do a job and could care less about the animals. The
staff are uncaring, short and seem like they do not want to be
bothered by the likes of someone who really does care. As far
as taking in their Guinea Pigs, I am forced to pay for each and
every one of them. If not, they euthanize. They don't care.
I have yet to figure this one out.
I have done nothing but think about this poor Ig since the
conversation yesterday but in all honesty I cannot do anything
about it. They said they would hold it for 7 days to see if
an owner comes forward, if not, they will euthanize.
What a horrible ending to probably a horrible life. It just
isn't fair. There was a comment made in the discussion about
Melissa Kaplan's ideas of banning reptile ownership. Personally,
if I could stop all of the abuse and neglect of reptiles and
other pets I would be the first to give mine up! We are suppose
to be the superior species yet we cause so much unneeded pain
and suffering.
