i understand that sometimes iguanas can be burned by hot rocks...
should they not be used under any circumstances?
is there a way to tell if a hot rock is "safe?"
i know iguanas are "designed" to absorb heat from above, and a rock shouldn't be used as the primary source of heat.
my lizard used to have a hot rock--i knew that it was possible for the rock to burn her. i placed my hand on it and left it there for a while, the heat from it didn't really seem that "warm."
the lizard used to sleep under my dresser (free-roamer) so i placed the hot rock there (couldn't get a ceramic heater under there). the lizard never got any burns.
the lizard was a full grown beast, could this be a reason why she never got burned? i'm not sure if the "hand test" is fair for smaller lizards (if at all). would a smaller lizard be at more risk?
when she was smaller i did have a thick sock over the rock to insulate her from the heat (but i never had her as an iglet).
just curious what insight you guys might have.
