Fire Ants are not a problem...I do keep my male in an outdoor enclosure all day & night which is on caster . I think the only way to destroy fire ant mounds is the kill the queen, & chemically by flooding the center of the mound .
I would not worry about your Ig & fire ants..tough skinned as horned toads are...and not as scrumptious as say your dog! If you do see mounds around your place Id get a professional exterminator...toxic or non-toxic...and get rid of the bums!
