In Reply to: Thinking of getting an iguana...... posted by stardust127 on November 09, 2002 at 10:01:03:
:For my boyfriend, (yes, he knows, this is not something I would suprise him with)
:I was a little worried about what I read about their temper during breeding time. Do only the males get angry?
:And when I went on a adoption forum they talked about some of theirs being altered. If you alter your iguana does it stop the potential ugliness of their personality coming out?
:I have no plans on breeding, just a pet.
:I like the idea of adoption, but perhaps maybe for a smaller one so they can get to know eachother
:Thanks for any info
Females also have the aggresive moments during mating season..(my female is going through it right now)...But if you use caution there shouldn't be a problem. As for getting a younger iguana rather than adoption: In my experience adopting an iguana is a much better way to go. There are so many of them out there that it is sad...and a lot of them have great temperments but their owners do not want to deal with their care. I also have an 8 month old iguana.....he/she is very skiddish....Have you done your necessary research on diet/housing/heating/lighting? If you are interested Melissa Kaplans site is a very good resource...also, Jen Swafford's pages. Feel free to ask me any questions that you can not find answers too....hopefully I will be able to help....
