As long as everything appears Ok I would say that Spike is simply trying to make up for lost time and is soaking up as much heat and UV as possible. As far as UV exposure is concerned, I have yet to hear of a bulb available to John/Jane Q. that will produce "too much" UV. At best, the spot configuration of a 160w merc vapor bulb will put out approx. 140 microwatts/cm2 which is STILL less than half of what is available in direct sunlight during the summertime in New England. I'm sure that as you head closer to the equator UV exposure will increase considerably. Be concerned as to *heat* exposure but as long as Spike can get out of the direct light he should be fine. Ig's self regulate as far as D3 production is concerned so after X amount of exposure Spike will simply stop manufacturing D3 until he needs more. Incidently, this is also the reason why I generally never recommend supplimenting a diet with D3 - unless of course there are extreme circumstances and then someone really has to know what they're doing. Toxic levels of D3 are easier to hit than one would think when it occurs both naturally in an ig and is artificially supplimented....

As far as basking in windows, I hate to say it but Spike was most likely receiving zero UV from that. Much like the little screen on the front of a microwave, window screens will filter out most if not all possible UVB.
