: Hi Everyone!
: I've read (and I prefer) feeding fresh foods whenever possible. My Mom however wants to feed my iguana frozen mixed vegetables because she says that these are higher in vitamins and everything as opposed to the fresh vegetables you'd buy during the winter time. I really don't like the idea, but I don't really have an argument to convince her that this isn't a good way to feed an iguana (or is it and I've just not read that yet?). Please tell me what's wrong with this so that I can still feed my iguana fresh foods in the winter time! Thanks a lot! Wendy :)
First of all, if you're talking the package of mixed veggies, they aren't good anyway. An iguana needs collards, dandelion, mustard greens, escarole, endive, butternut squash, snap peas, green beans, parsnips, etc.
From what I've read, the frozen can be used in a pinch or if you absolutely cannot get the fresh.
Our markets carry all of the above all year long, so I don't have a problem (and I live in Pennsylvania).
I know you can get frozen collards and mustard greens. If you HAVE to use frozen, use those, not mixed veggies.
Good luck.
