So the boyfriend's sister is visiting for a few days, and she was kind of squeamish about having Phil out and about while she was in the room (Phil usually hangs out on my lap or shoulder while I'm at home). B/f and I take him out and sit down with his sister and talk some about what iguanas are like and what the potential hazards of having one are, how we deal with these hazards, and why we both like having him in our lives so much. The whole time, Phil is sitting patiently on b/f's lap, eyeing our guest with curiosity but generally at ease. B/f picks him up and moves to put him back in his cage, and suddenly Phil makees a 2-foot jump off his hand and lands on his bf's shoulder. I've never seen him make a jump this far and I think he ~missed~ because one of his claws reached out and lodged itself firmly in bf's nose. So the boyfriend is bleeding all over the place, and I run to put 'the sweet little lizard' back in the cage before his sister gets too upset. I tell you, igs are the KINGS of timing...
I clip Phil's nails regularly, but they seem to grow back (and sharp!) with in a matter of 1 to 2 days. Does anyone keep anything in their ig's habitat to help them wear down their claws? The boyfriend is thinking a log wrapped in very fine-grade sandpaper, but I am wondering if this will damage the scales on Phil's belly. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch,
-Lily
