Hi, everyone. I am back. I just got a new baby ig yesterday. He is only about 18" stl or less. I dont know the sex yet but I'll just call it him.
He did belong to my sisters friend but she decided to sell him because she is a teenager and is never home to give him the attention that he needs.
He came with a 24" ESU Reptile combo light, 1 flourescent uvb tube and 1 75 watt incandescent night light. He came with a daylight too but it was broke. I have hime in an aquarium that is 4'L x 18"W x 18"D. It is plenty big enough for him now but I am going to build him a cage soon that will be 6'Lx6'Tx3'D. His substrate is newspapers with a towel over them. He has a long shallow tupperware dish big enough for him to get into safely for water. He has been eating peas, green beans, and collard greens. I am going to get him more of a variety of veggies and some fruit for snacks tomorrow. I am converting a home made dog kennel into an outdoor cage for the summer for him by replacing the fencing that covers it now with some 18 guage plastic mesh. I will also have to build a knew one of those by next summer :-).
I am going to go shopping for him and buy him some knew stuff this weekend. He needs a knew UVB tube. The one he has now only provides 2.0 uvb. I am going to get the Iguana light 5.0 tube or the dessert sun 7.0 tube, a 150 watt incandescent day light and night light, human heating pad for under the tank, and some indoor/outdoor carpet for substrate. His basking area is slightly cooler than I would like it to be but that stuff should get it up there.
Do you guys think I should get the 5.0 or 7.0 uvb tube? Should I put the heating pad under the substrate or under the whole cage? Could I use regular carpet for substrate??? My husband is a carpet installer and we have a garage full of new scrap carpet. How can I increase the humidity in the cage? Right now the humidity guage is at 60 and when I mist him it jumps to 70.
Oh, I am going to take him to a vet for a check up once he is well acclimated. The vet I am going to take him to is Micheal Jones at Jones Animal Hospital in Tacoma, WA. He is about one and a half hours from where I live but only about half an hour from my in-laws house so I am going to take him to the vet when we go up there for the weekend.
Sorry for such a long post. I just wanted to give you all the details.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JenniferLM
PS- I need help coming up with a name for him/her.
