Enclosure building...what paints or sealers r safe?

Am beginning my enclosure building experience tommorrow. I just wanted to know if there were any paints, varnishes and glues that I should stay away from. Also, any that are particularly hardy. I'm going to also be using galvanized hardware cloth as caging material. Very stong and relatively inexpensive. This should stand up to the heat right? I intend to ask them at the store tommorrow too.
