She is 9 years old, and in great health. It has been 3-4 years since she has been gravid and I was hoping she would never get that way again. This will be her 4th clutch. The 1st one, 6 years ago went perfect--no problems. The 2nd one a year later went fairly well, but took her longer to get all the eggs out. The 3rd one was long. It took her approx. 2 weeks to get all the eggs out, even with the use of calcium and Oxytocin injections. She bounced back quickly and evidently emptied all the eggs out. NOW, about 3 1/2 years later, she's gravid again!!! (very early stage). I worry that at her age, and the hard time she had last time, that I might be looking at rushing her to the vet for an emergency removal of eggs. I would rather dodge that while she is strong and have her spayed. If I wait and try to let her have them, I feel that I am taking a risk with her in a less healthy/weakened condition from the strain and all it takes out of them to produce the eggs that her chances are not as good for the surgery than if I do it soon. During the last egg-laying incident, she would not even try to use the nesting box after the first day she began laying them. I would come home and find an egg here and there, day after day in her cage. Sometimes several days would go by and I thought she was through, and I would find an egg!
I would appreciate advise from owners who HAVE ACTUALLY had their females spayed. Good or bad experiences. I would truly appreciate it.
