Vega$ was spayed last Spring. Her behavior has been a lil more alpha, but she's still very sweet; altho, she seemed to have bonded more with my b/f thereafter (I was the evil humon who took her to the vet).

She's eating fine, very active, etc. I for once don't have to worry about her. The problems we had before was with egg breakage. One was a fluke accident at the vet; she freaked at hearing the dogs and basically leapt off the exam table to a chair, hitting her side on it; then we conservatively treated her with Baytril with full recovery). But then last year, being the active guana she is, decided to fly; she jumped from the couch to a barstool; *timber*; once again, egg breakage, and this time we decided to just do the spay.

With a spay, you don't want to really wait til the ig *really* needs it. Vega$ went in healthy; we had pre-treated her with Baytril to make sure the infection was under control. She woke up immediately from surgery and was quite active. THe only thing that we learned (but there was no way we could have known) was not to give her Rimadyl (oral form of pain meds). I had a problem with adminstering any injection form, so doc thot this was best (there's a formula for this drug for herps). We dont' know if it's a general or individual side effect, but doc sez he isn't ever using it again. He really loves Vega$ and hated seeing her having a difficult recovery time. THe drug we think made her more active than needed to be and may have caused her to have some bleeding/seepage. We dont' know if it's just her; but we won't recommend it. We're just glad that Vega$ was a strong healhty iguana to start with, or the consequences could have been worse.
