He sounds very similar to my iguana Sleestack when he was young...it took that long to tame him so he wasn't completely freaked out (he would play dead or fight for his life). The best thing to do is take him out a few times per day for shorter periods. Eventually he will get used to these visits and realize you will not kill him. Try not to make sudden movements or talk to loudly or have the tv blaring. Put a dirty shirt with your scent in his cage so he can get used to your smell. Make sure he has a hidey hut so he can feel safer in his cage-- Sleestack used to hide a lot when he was younger-- he would even cover himself up with a towel. Now he never does this and I can jump around and talk loudly-- he pays me no attention these days!

Also maybe feed him treats-- eventually he'll probably take him from you. Try a blueberry muffin piece or some fruit.
