I've had my iguana for like 7 months already and he is still really scared of me. Ok maybe I haven't taken him out every single day but it's because it just looks like he hates it so much when I take him out that I think he might rather be in his sunny, 4x4x6 foot cage. Not to mention that he's really bad when I take him out. He doesn't run for his life when I go in to get him. He just stays still hoping that maybe, just maybe I don't see him. But then when he's on my sholder he's fine, as long as he doesn't see me looking at him. And when I think he's behaiving good, he's just planning an escape route where he just leaps off my shoulder (no matter how high or dangerous it is)and dashes for cover. He acts like I'm trying to eat him which I can understand since he's only maybe a years and a half old but what I don't get is that after I get a hold of this crazily, wild iguana he just sits there. He acts like the most tamest iguana but I can still see the fear in his eyes cuz when I move closer to him he creeps back in fear. I use to take him out every single day but saw no progress so I stopped. Now I'm giving him another shot and have made a goal to take him out and pet him for atleast an hour every day. Do you think it'll still work or is it too late for Nate to see me as a friend not a preditor? He fears me so much he won't even eat infront of me. Not even if I'm looking at him from inside my house. He's always got his eye on me and doesn't move a muscle if I'm looking at him. The thing with the title is that I asked my friend what was wrong with my iguana and he told me that some iguana just can't be tamed. No matter how hard you try they will always be wild and crazy. I refused to believe him so I'm looking for answer he on kingsnake. Please help. Thank you very much and sorry for the length of my post, just wanted to make everything clear.
p.s. Also I wanted to state that there has been times where he has leaped from my 5'3" shoulder onto the tile floor, without any injury. He tries to run for his life atleast once everytime I take him out. Sometimes I get the feeling that he thinks he can fly cuz he'll just go running down the dinning room table, open his arms wide open and leap off like a hang glider off a cliff only to drop straight down and fall flat on the floor. It scares me stiff when he does that but he always seems ok.
