Hi Melissa,
If it's green iguanas you are wondering about, you have come to the right place! We are avid iguana fans here, and will help you make informed choices about getting an iguana.
I am the first to reply to you, and I know there will be several others, but I want to encourage you to adopt an iguana rather than buy one from the pet store. There are literally thousands of unwanted adult iguanas in this country and they deserve a chance. My two iguanas are rescues and I wouldn't have it any other way.

One added benefit, (besides knowing you saved a life and made a happy critter out of a previously unwanted and neglected iguana) is that if you adopt an adult ig, you will most likely already know the sex (it's very difficult to sex a small iguana, and usually can't be done until 1 or 2 years of age I've heard) and you will also know it's temperment. Iguanas range from docile and sweet and even somewhat affectionate to mean, whipping and tempermental. Getting a baby or juvenile from the store means you really don't know what you're getting.

Just my two cents worth. I'm sure others will also offer their opinions about it. I just wanted to say that I am glad you have made the choice to become an iguana owner. Do a lot of research before you get one and be prepared to work hard to keep it well fed and happy. I assure you that if you put a lot into being an iguana owner, you will get a lot out of it! It can be SO rewarding to rescue one of these little green guys. Not a day goes by that I don't think how glad I got my two iguanas out of their bad situations. I know they are in a good place with me now.
