I have been using an ultrasonic humidifier in JJ's cage, and we love it, it keeps the bottom of her cage at around 75% humidity. She ususally hangs around on the upper branches where the humidity is a bit lower. I have a pvc pipe coming out of the humidifier so the mist actually comes out right around the branch where she hangs out, but it falls to the ground pretty quickly. It is a very messy machine, even set on it's lowest possible settings... the water condenses all over the bottom of the cage and pools there. I have been coping by completely wiping down the bottom of the cage with paper towels each evening, which I don't have a problem with. Her cage bottom is lined with linoleom, but I had sealed it with silicone, and the seal is not holding, so need to re-seal it, since the water is now getting underneath. Should I use silicone again? I have been reading about expanding foams like "great stuff". Pond builders use it, but I want to be 100% sure it is safe before I would use it. Anyone have experience with it? I have also seen one called Foamseal that is guaranteed to be 100% fish safe. (It is marketed to pond builders.) Any one used this? I want to seal the edges of the linoleum good so the water cannot get under it and warp the wood. Any help will be apprecieated, as I have not run the humidifier for the past week in an attampt to let the wood underneath dry out before I re-seal, and I can't wait to start up the rainforest machine again!
