All of this petstore talk.....

I bought my iguana 5 yrs ago from a petstore in Edmonton, Canada not knowing a thing about it. I'm sure 80% of the forum users have done the same while exploring this hobby. I have to admit, I had no idea about them, I just thought...hey...this is cool and cheap too.
Well since it was such a unique creature, I hopped on the internet and started to do some research. Back then, the only site I could find was mellisa kaplins. It gave me the basic info I needed. As the years went by, and the iguana grew...I knew I had 2 choices:
1)give it to somebody
2) Spend a tone of money.
I never liked the idea of giving any pet away since they are my responsibility. I spent the money and I give it a pretty good life.
What I am getting at is, yes....many iguana's die in the pet trade, they become neglected and so-fourth. On the other hand, if nobody sold iguana's....where would this leave the hobby for the people who care about them? It would eventually die. Nobody has control of petstores, but I do not condone them all. There are some good ones out there.
It comes down to education. There are tones of websites now with good articles and knowledge like the iguana spot for example. It's coming to the point where people know what iguanas are and they know what there responsibility is if they decide to buy one. It takes time, but soon you should see a decline in iguanas at petstores alot sooner than expected due to people like you who care about educating the public. For example, in western Canada, you won't even see iguanas at petstores anymore....why? education, thats what it all comes down too.
Anyhow...enough of my rambling about the subject
Chris
The same thing relates to aquatic turtles....
