Yes burns are VERY visable and NO they don't feel heat the same way we do. That's one of the reasons most of us here are against hot rocks, iguanas will sit on them until they are burned straight through and never move.
I'm hesitant to say that I question the advice of a vet however in this case I do. Running a small animal under cold water when their body is so hot from the burn could cause shock. Water has also been known to blister a burn. If it had been me, I would have taken, oh lets say a piece of fruit from the fridge, wrapped it in a cloth and set the ig on it. Our vet treats burns with silvadine ointment.
Keep an eye on yor little friend and if he/she begins to act strange, call the vet back ASAP.
