If they are giving BLATENLY WRONG information, Have you tried to inform them of the misinformation if you are friend with them, maybe they would be willing to be educated. IF they are selling a "friend" the wrong supplies, telling them things that will lead to the death of there pets, then they either need educated ro need to get out of that business. IM like you with only ONE little mom and pop shop here in town, they do carry reptiles and other critters, I DONT support them, on the RARE occasion when i MUST have something that day I will shop there but I also talk to them about proper care and that and hope some of it sinks in, Other wise id say buy online or go to the next town, as if they are givign a "friend" all this wrong info what are they telling and or selling there regular customers and how many of there animals are you going to purchase withotu researching first and without stopping buying from people who have NO CLUE?????
Im not trying to be rude just in case this sounded that way.
: I am in a similar situation. The first reptile I bought from the pet shop was a waterdragon. It was sold in a tank ( they said it was big enough) which was way too small for him. The sold me a water dish at the same time which is about 5 cm deep, and fits about 1 liter of water in it ( Nowhere near big enough for a waterdragon). No UVB lighting was mentioned to me either. 6 months later I decided to bug an iguana. They told me it could live in the same cage as the waterdragon, it could eat worms, which were automatically in the cage, and that the two of them can live together. They told me to feed him vegetables, nothing in specific...so I started him on iceberg lettuce and broccoli etc. ( I did supplement the vitamins).
: We then purchasse two snakes. they were supposed to eat gold fish from the deepfreeze they told me. I then looked on this site and read that they can get a vitamin B1 deficiency from this. I asked them about it and they denied it and said that it wouldnt be a problem. Last week sunday (vets are unavailable, and the ones that were available dont know a thing about reptiles) I eventually got hold of a reptile vet, and I had to drive 1 1/2 hours in the snow for an emergency vitamin B1 shot. I mentioned this to the pet shop but they didnt believe that it had to do with the gold fish.
: The problem is... the people are fairly good friends of ours and also I dont know another petshop that sells reptile products and this is the only petshop in the town I live in.
: It is a shame, because I dont agree with the way they look after reptiles, but they are such a nice family that I dont want to just stop coming there.
