: i am having a hell of a time clipping my iguanas toenails. he has scratched the living hell out of my hands and wrists and i am wondering what is the easiest way to clip him.
-----------Easiest way by far is to take him to a vet and have them do it for a few bucks. You might just be trying to clip too far down, in which case the ig will sure let you know.
: he wont stand still. i know this may see unorthodox but should i just clip off part of the limbs so that they dont grow back? it might be a little painful at first but it would be beneficial. let me know if thats ok. thanks.
------------Beneficial in what way? Causing an infection that either kills your pet or costs mucho bucks to treat? Causing lasting pain *yes, LASTING* pain, not just discomfort, and ruining any bond of trust between you and your iguana? This is definitely not okay. Also, iguanas need at least part of their claws to climb, and climbing is part of a healthy iguana's activities. Cutting off toes or parts or tips of them would lead to suppression of this activity, probably leading to depression in your lizard. As far as the temporary pain idea goes, iguanas are as capable of feeling pain as you or I. Would you cut a child's fingertips off if he or she struggled, to make it easier on yourself in the long run? Just some things to consider. But by all means, take your ig to the vet or a knowledgeable pet store and have them clip the nails and then show you how.
