toe nail clipping question

i am having a hell of a time clipping my iguanas toenails. he has scratched the living hell out of my hands and wrists and i am wondering what is the easiest way to clip him. he wont stand still. i know this may see unorthodox but should i just clip off part of the limbs so that they dont grow back? it might be a little painful at first but it would be beneficial. let me know if thats ok. thanks.
