Joe, I am glad to hear that you will not attempt cutting off part of your lizard's toes! I have a suggestion you can try to do it yourself. My last iguana would not stand still to have her nails clipped either. She would get mad enough to try and bite! (She was normally very nice...) I would wrap her in a bath towel, and have only the leg I was working on sticking out. (Dont try to flip him on his back when he's wrapped up, the towel is only to gently restrain him.) The towel kept mine slightly calmer, and even when she did scratch or bite it was the towel, not me. You have to be patient, and gentle, since your lizard will probably not like this method much either, but you will not end up shredded. Make sure you reassure him after it's over... I never clipped much off at one time either, just the sharp tip. I use a large size "people" toe nail clipper, it seems easier to me. (since I only cut of the tip, this size works even on full grown igs.) In the meantime, when you have your ig out for play time, try decensitizing him to having his feet touched. play with his toes when you are holding him until he accepts it, and eventually he MAY calm down for clippings... Hope it helps.

: I didnt mean to sound like a jackal by cutting his nails completely off but i heard they dont feel pain like us and it would be just like losing a nail. anyways, i will have a vet trim him and see if i can do it the next time. thanks.

: : :But by all means, take your ig to the vet or a knowledgeable pet store and have them clip the nails and then show you how.

: : Or just give the Iguana away to a knowledgable person!

: : Anybody even thinking about cutting off limbs to suit the owner obviously hasn't researched enough to have this kind of animal in the first place!
