Congrats on deciding to get an iguana. We'll be looking forward to having you as part of this forum. I also want to hand down the tradition here of making sure you know what your getting into. I received this very same warning and researched and read tons of material before making the decision to let my children get an iguana. I knew that there might be the possibility that when they left home that I may acquire the pet.

They grow very large (Giant Green Iguana), so housing is something your going to have to think about. The iguana are reasonably priced in the pet store and through breeders. But their has to be some thought and money spent on their housing, heating and lighting requirements. Time needs to be spent everyday in feeding, cleaning, bathing, and handling. Some igs sold in the pet stores are very gentle and easy to handle because they are not in good condition and then you are talking vet bills.

It was recommended that I checked into bearded dragons before making my final decision. I checked into everything, discussed it with the family and we still decided to get an iguana. I just want you to fully understand all that is required for the care of an ig and realize that it is necessary their entire life, which can be a very long time, 15-20 years.

Again,I don't want scare you, just want you to know what your getting into. Check out the following sites, they are just two of many, but they will discuss most everything you need to know. If you still decide on an iguana, let us know when you get your new pet, and welcome to the forum.

This is the lecture that iZ's mom usually gives. She is feeling under the weather right now so I picked up the torch. How did I do mom?

Joan
