went to the vet this morning. the woman i saw was an "exotics" specialist, who says she knows a good deal about iguanas. due to current financial restrictions we couldn't afford to get x-rays done, but the vet said it doesn't appear to be a serious injury, that it is most likely just being extremely weak and possibly calcium defficiency. she took a stool sample and said zilla got parasites (common) so i got the treatment for that as well as some steroid medication to help get his back legs moving again. he also got a calcium/sterile solution shot to rehydrate him and get his calcium levels a good boost. zilla is still quite weak but as long as his legs turn out to be ok i think he'll pull through fine. i'm still in shock that he survived such a long time out in the cold. i would've never thought it possible. what a tough little lizard! :)

also, i noticed there's something wrong with his "vent". there's something kinda poking out from the crack. the vet noticed it but didn't do anything other than wiping it clean. i've seen pics of the hemipenis and i don't think that's what it is. i looked online and found info saying that it could be due to dehydration, constipation, and parisites... and to try soaking him in sugar water. that didn't work. should i attempt to gently push it back in with a surgical glove and ky jelly? suggestions please. i have no way of telling how long it's been that way since he just returned home yesterday after 2 months in the wilderness.
