First of all I'll tell you my 4 adult igs all live outside (24x7) summer time...and I live in Texas, so thats a long season. Second, they get 90% turnip, collard, &/or mustard greens w/10% assorted fruit veggie mix (to which no new items have been added all summer).
Now the problem...I've noticed my adult (7yrs) female ig (Shirley) has been kinda lethargic lately. She hasn't been eating as much as she used to (so it follows she's not evacuating as much either) and has sleeping on the ground instead of her branch. She may have lost some weight, but nothing drastic enough for me to be quite sure of. Yesterday I noticed the whites of her eyes seemed very red (instead of the normal dirty white). Not like she'd gotten something in them and irritated them cause that would probably only be 1 eye. Anyway, when I still noticed again today, how very red they are (and almost swollen looking...the red seeming to puff up a tiny bit above the iris), I called to make a vet (I'm lucky to have had the same good herp vet for as many years as I've had her) appointment & we're going in tomorrow at 10am. They almost couldn't fit me in, but when I told them about her red eyes, and mentioned I was concerned it may be a sympton of unflushed toxins (not pesticides or anything, just the normal toxins all our bodies flush out through the liver & other organs) the tech double checked w/the vet and he fit me in.
So now I'm even more worried. . .that he thought it sounded serious enough to fit me into his busy schedule that is. So I've brought her in for a good soak in the tub and now she's laying in the inside cage but seems very, very lethargic . . . maybe "weak" might even be a better word.
Does this combination of symptoms sound familiar to anyone out there? Please share any info you might have. I'm afraid it'll be a long night, waiting for that 10am appointment w/a sick iggy girl on my hands. Keep the good thoughts going for her.
Thanks,
Rebecca
