Hi again, Just wanted to keep everyone up to date on Nikki..her broken toe seems to be healing good n looks streight..she acts as if it never happened or there is no splint..just doesnt seem to bother her and her next dr visit is in a couple weeks.
I do have a question about how long Iguana's can be away from their UVB or direct sun lighting each day? I have read all kinds of stuff and that they need around 12 hours of UVB each day .. I have her light on a timer so it comes on at 7am and off at 7pm and I try to get her out when ever possible in direct sun light as long as it's around 90 out.. I live in kansas so it's been around 100 lately and I only let her out for an hour and mist her often with water. it's sapose to only be in the mid 80's this weekend so even if it's sunny I am not sure if I should even let her out because it's to cold? I have only been taking her away from UVB lighting for an hour each day to let her run around and play and take baths..she hasn't been allowed to go swimming (dr's orders) sense she has the splint on.. in the evening after the lights go off I take her out and just hold her for a while while as she falls asleep ..she doesn't crawl away she just likes to lay there on my hand and sleep while I watch tv and tends to get a tiny bit grouchy if I disturb her so I just let her rest and lay completly still watching tv.
my main question is about how long I can let her out from the UVB per day to play and roam around?
I see a lot off people saying to let them out when ever they want out and let them out often or many times a day.. I just wonder how well UVB works like this..
i'm bringing this up because it's been in the low 80's the past couple days and no sun but today it was warm and sunny so I let her out for about 5 hours and checked on her often.. when I brought her in because the sun was around the side leaving her only shade but when I brought her in she did the SOLOR CHARGED thing like usual but this time with a twist.. she usually is just a little grouchy and skitish for about 30 seconds then calms down n crawls onto my hand and I put her back in her habitat, today though.. I had to very very jently pry each and every little toe off her tree she likes hanging out on and when I took her from the sunning habitat to her in home habitat and put her in it same way I always do.. let her crawl out of my hand onto her vine.. what she did next shocked me because she quickly ran down her vine ..over to the food dish and pood in itthen ran on all fours over to the side of the window next to me and flared her doolap still standing on all fours with tale curved back n up stiffly (glaring at me!) she has NEVER acted like this before nore pooed in the food dish..she always goes in the water dish..
I just felt really badly about it all because I know she did not want back in yet but I brought her back trying to care for her and make sure she gets all her proper amount of daily UVB.
sorry this got so long :(
thanks to anyone for any advice
