Greetings.In my experience,an Iguana turns dark only when either a)they are cold b)they have been in the dark(ie;under dressers etc.) or c)when they are sunning.The dewlap extension in older Iguanas is typically a sign of either agression or and/or boldness or self pride.Stress or fear can usually be interpreted through actions such as body compression or closing of the eyes.Many young Iguanas will almost continuously display their dewlaps when roaming about.I have always took it as them just being on their toes,which is a necessary behavior in the wild for young Iggs.Most Iguanas will extend their dewlaps after drinking water as well,though not a behavioral display at all.
