Hi, I have a 4 month old iguana from Flukers Farms.. saturday when I woke up she was nearly black and when I looked her over to see if she had been hurt her rear left longest toe looked broken. just past the last nuckle it was bent up and back.I took her to a local vet that said the handle reptiles all the time,he said leave it alone and wait and see if it falls off and told me to change her diet, gave me neocalglucon to give her 1cc a day. he really just didn't seem to know what to do and I didn't want to just let her drag her foot around untel it got hurt worse or to late for anything to be done so I took her to another vet that said they deal mostly with reptiles..it was a 30 minute drive that Nikki didn't enjoy at all but they did put a little band aid type splint on her toe and said to leave it a month, they asked all kinds of questions about diet and habbitat and said i'm doing everything right. i'm using melissa Kaplans MK diet in very small amounts. she gets fresh food and water everyday..I use repti sun uvb 5.0 and have a 65 gallon habitat by Reptarium that I put her in for about 4 hours a day out on the deck for direct sunlight. I think thats were she broke her toe,it's made of a soft nit type material I think she got cought in, I really like it for letting her be outside in fresh air and sun but i'm not sure if I want to keep using it and have more injuries.. inside I have a 4x6 habitat with heat uvb lights.. she loves jumping and watching EVERYTHING and loves going out in the reptarium.. shes already broke her tail 2 times but I took her to the vet both times and her tail has completly healed it never broke completly through.. my concern is i'm not sure what to do to make things more safe for her,ive taken nearly everything out of her living places so there is only a tree,log..food & water dish and small climbing plants.. lights come on at 7am and off at 7pm then I take her out to let her run around a little.. her favorite place is at the very top of the screen door were she can watch everything happening outside.
i'm told shes very healthy,no MBD problem she just got cought and injured herself maybe trying to jump. she is tame and loves being held..crawls into my hand when I put it in the habitat and follows me all over the house finds a high place and just watches me. I can't find much on baby iguanas and could use any advise about climbing or other stuff for in her habitat for baby's. i'm to the point of taking nearly everything out and just leaving it very plain so she wont get hurt but I don't wan't to have it to plain. anyone have any sugestions?
thanks
Nikki's dad
