Help! (My last ActiveUVHeat bulb question...I promise!)

Posted by j on July 28, 2001 at 15:45:51:

I have been reading about this bulb for a few weeks now, and then the other day I read Melissa Kaplan's page about why these bulbs are bad news, and basically it freaked me out and I am more confused than ever. Here are some questions I still have, and hope some of you can answer them...
1.Flood or Spot? I have an enclosure that is about 5 in a half feet tall, 5 in a half feet wide, and 2 in a half feet deep. The heat light I have above the basking spot now is about 11 inches away. I am worried about how much heat this ActiveUVHeat bulb will actually produce. I see the lowest wattage is 100, and the highest wattage I use now is 75. I couldn't fix the light to be further away than 12 inches, and I am worried about overheating my ig.
2.So if I use ActiveUVHeat light, this will be the primary heating light? I wouldn't need any other incandescent light for heating and I wouldn't need my ReptiSun 5.0-I would have just this one light for my enclosure??

I know it is annoying to see the same subject over and over again in a post, but I want to be 100% confident before I use any new item for my ig. And I know I am probably asking questions that have been answered on here before, and on the Active UVHeat website(which I have read), but when I read something negative(like MK's page on ActiveUVHeat bulbs), I don't know which way to turn. On Kaplan's page, she posted the warning label that is on the ActiveUVHeat package, and it made me have second thoughts.
Thanks for all your help on this subject everyone.
