I open the top of the cage ( she's only 10 inches long right now, and if she wants out, she jumps out. ) She's in a 75 gallon tank right now, and we are looking to buy a 3ft long, 2ft deep, 5 ft high enclousure in a couple months. Humidity and heat are fine, filtrated pond, live plants and climbing areas, plus a little lizard hammock she uses as a bed. She's very " sociable ", likes to hang out on the computer, or my shoulder, and will only eat from my hand. No bowls, no chasing her food, it has to be dropped in front of her. She's active and in good health ( per her visits to the vet ). I was just curious about the samonella factor, knowing alot of iggy and water dragon people let thier animals free roam for periods of time! Thanks for the info! :-)
: Salmonella can be carried by many different animals. It can live in a little peice of dried up old lizard poo for up to 2.5 years. If your lizard is comming into contact with his feces, than having him roam free will increase the chance of contracting Salmonella. That does not mean that you should never let your lizard out. It is your choice, and we all must access the risks when we choose to let our reps out. however, I suspect that his time out of the cage is more for you than him, as most well housed water dragons rarely seem to ever want out. But I dont know your dragon, or his housing situation. I am only speculating.
