so here's my plan!
before talking to your mom again about this:
you need to do ALOT of research + note taking on how to care for an ig ... show her that you DO know what having an iguana involves and that you have done ALOT of thinking + research + planning! show her that you ARE responsible! theses links will get you started: The Basking Spot
MK's Giant Green Iguana Care
you need to figure out what supplies you will need: the huge enclosure + who's gonna design, build it?, the special lights, a heat source (NO hot rocks!!!), a humidity source (no steam humidifiers!), etc, etc
figure out how much this is gonna cost and how are YOU going to pay for it?
research + write up a diet plan for your ig ... they need VERY particular food, not lettuce and NOT canned iguana food from the pet store!
now, how are you going to get to the store and buy this FRESH food 1-2 times a week (or more) and how are you going to pay for it???
how will you pay for the vet bills??? is there even an ig-vet in you area??? alot of areas DON'T HAVE qualified ig-vets ... iguanas DO NEED to go the vet to be checked even when they APPEAR to be healthy! and IF something bad happens + your ig needs even more vet visits, how are you going to pay for it??? if you want to be responsible for an animal's life, you HAVE to plan for it's medical care as well ...
how much are you going to 'chip in' towards the family's electric and water bills??? an ig's equipment adds ALOT to the normal electric bill and it's not really fair to ask mom to pick up part of YOUR responsibility towards YOUR animal ...
WHO are you going to have take care of your ig if you spend the wkend at a friend's house??? igs can NOT just have food put in their enclosure and be left alone ...
can you set a daily schedule and FOLLOW IT RIGOROUSLY??? igs NEED to have a daily schedule and you NEED to follow it as closely as possible ... you can't just feed them "whenever you get there" ... they need a SET TIME for meals + for interacting + for bedtime ...
start impressing your mom with your ability to be responsible by being mutually respectful of HER opinions + view points, talk WITH her instead of TO her ... help around the house WITHOUT being asked or reminded ... be nice to your little sister ... stuff like that ... no, i'm NOT talking about just "sucking up" til you get your way!! i mean BE respectful and responsible!!! you are asking her to trust you to be in charge of another being's LIFE after all! don't insult HER intelligence by just expecting her to say "oh, OK sure ..." she KNOWS what a tremendous job it is to be responsible for another's life after all ...
and every once in a while ... moms DO have a good reason for saying no ... either way, while you're under HER roof, it IS HER RULES ...
good luck!
Bon.
