Eating Carpet

Hello,
Well for the past few weeks Buddy has been acting wierd. After he eats his breakfast, lunch or whatever. we let him out of his cage. Almost always within a few minutes he is ripping up carpet. We moved him into a new, quite large enclosure about a month ago. At about the same time I started working 1st shift. Prior to that I was home durring the daytime. I would let him run free for most of the day. Now he gets out for a few mins. in the morning. And Back out about 6 or 7 at night. He eats right. We feed him spinach, cantelope, khale, zuccini, coated w/ crushed up Zoo Med igg food. Plus a pich of calcium. He devours a quite generous plate full(he is about 1yr old). But he always goes for carpet for desert. The whole house is carpeted. Could this have somthing to do w/ the new cage and less time free? Thanx for the help.
