WEANING OFF THE CAT FOOD!HELP!

I recently rescued an Ig from someone who was giving it a diet of cat food and lettuce!! I went out and bought all the right things to feed this ig but it refuses to eat the greens!! I finally broke down and ground up small amounts of cat food and mixed it in with the greens! This worked and he ate them like a pig!! Is this okay to do until i can wean him completly from the cat food?? I do not want him to starve!! Thanxs~~ kit
