Well... How much money do you have to spend ? You could start off with a juvenile. You might luck out and find one up for adoption which we always recommend as opposed to buying one. Food, well-vet visits, enclosures - notice I say plural here because after you buy the little guy the "pet shop" recommended ten gallon tank you'll realize that you'll need a bigger tank and go buy either a 35 or 55 gal.. A year or so later you'll realize that you need to either build a custom enclosure which could run upwards of $700 once you buy wood, plexiglass or whatever you decide to build with and then go buy the electronics, OR you decide to dedicate an entire room in your house to your iguana. And yes, they really do need that much room if they're to be kept in captivity but many people can only afford to give them a 6x6x3 enclosure which isn't bad - until you go to build it or buy it. Then there's always the increased heat and electric bills that you'll either have to pay yourself or, I suspect, your parents will have to pay.
All in all, you're probably looking at around $1400 expenditure for the first year alone. Feel free to check out our website and take a look at the cost analysis that we've come up with. If you still have more questions feel free to ask away.....
