(1st lemme say i want to *discuss* ... i am *not* trying to argue or debate!)

i *TOTALLY* agree that *if* there *is* a risk to the ig's health/happiness involved, it IS NOT WORTH IT!!! (and i argue *against* hot rocks because of the extreme risk!)

if there really HAVE been such problems, i would seriously like more info on that because i've never heard of a problem with heating pads!
i have never heard of a heating pad, set on it's lowest setting, cause burns ...

i do NOT mean to imply that ANY thing like this can or should be used IN PLACE OF keeping the enclosure/environment warm enough! they are *NOT* meant as an alternative to the environment being kept warm enough! the ig's entire enclosure *must* be warm enough in + of itself ... the heating pad is an additional warm spot to be moved on + off of by the ig ...

ok, now this is also ASSUMING (bad thing to assume!) that the heating pad in question is a good quality brand name, made for humans (+ therefore checked/inspected more carefully), is brand new when put into use and is checked for any wear on a regular (read *daily*) basis ... and replaced ANYway after maybe 2 yrs ... (it is NOT one that mom had stuffed in the bathroom closet for years + said you could have ... it is NOT one you picked up at a yard sale ... etc)

to clarify things a bit as far as how *I* use them:
(iZ's room runs a constant 85-90 degrees) ...
one of the shelves in iZ's room is a 7' long one that he has designated as his "bed" ... there is a heating pad on one end of it that he likes to climb onto in the morning when he wakes up ... (he also used it quite a bit before + after surgery when his belly was so sore) ... this heating pad is on *Low* and runs 24/7 ... it is checked in the morning when hubby takes iZ his breakfast and again in the late afternoon when i go up to bring iZ downstairs ...

in the livingroom downstairs, he has another 7' shelf that is his supper + 'hangin' out' shelf ... on one end of it is a heating pad and also has a red heat lamp aimed at it cuz it's not possible to keep the living room warm enough for him (until summer time anyway!) ... he comes downstairs when i get off work for his bath, supper + a bit of social time with the humons ... this one is only on a few hours a day, also on *Low* setting and is checked everyday ...

i would NEVER, EVER take ANY risks with iZ and if you have evidence of properly used + maintained heating pads causing harm, i'm all ears!

Bon.
