Our Lucy just had a good portion of her tail amputated yesterday because of dried gangrene. I'm no expert. I'm very new to iguana care and this forum. I can tell you (no pictures available) what Lucy's tail was like. When we got her from her previous owner, we were told that she would probably lose the very end of her tail. The owner didn't offer anymore information than that. At that point we were looking at about a four inch piece I'd say. We have had Lucy for exactly five weeks now. She ended up losing I'm guessing fourteen inches (I haven't measured yet). My point is this. It moved up the tail fast. However, it did seem to definately stop at a certain point and didn't go any further. Maybe because of the antibiotics we injected her with before the surgery. I'm not sure. It was dark brown (although you could still see the stripes) and harder than jerky and shriveled up (sides sunken in). She's home now and I'm sure she'll be just fine. Some regrowth may occur over time I'm told. Russell.
