What are the signs of Dry gangreen?? Tail problem msg

First and Foremost we have a vet appt in a week and half, had to wait till pay day. Double D's tail about id say 4 inches up is dark brown in color and harder than the part closets to his body. I know they had to previously amputate part of his tail. Just couriouse to see if anyone has an pics or if to you it seems that is what it is. Of course we are keeping his vet appt just wanted your opinions.
