Can an Iggy survive on its own in Florida PLEASE READ msg

I got an email from a friend who knows I have an iggy, he lives in Florida (im in ohio) well he was telling me how he was in a park in Miami just this weekend when an almost 4ft iggy decided to show him that it was his turf. Now can this iggy live okay or do I need to try to figure to get it rescued? How the heck would I go about doing that???? This was in Miami. ANy advice is appreicated.
