It is, in my opinion, the height of irresponsibility to release these animals in any area. I can't believe that people think it's ok to drive to Florida and release an iguana just because it can survive there. Without regard to the plight of the iguanas, the world has enough problems with feral animals living outside thier native habitats without people such as this continuing to contribute to the problem.
