I couldn't tell you what might have happened with your past iguana without a large amount of information.
But I think I can help you with finding an ig that's in need of being adopted, which I would recommend vs purchasing another one.
As far as the requirements for raising a healthy iguana, here's some of the basics:
1. UVB light ( A MUST and needs to be within 18" of the iguana during the day and bulb changed out every 6 months)
2. Temperatures ranging from low 80's to a basking spot of 95 degrees during the day.
3. Humidity ( as much as possible )
4. Large cage ( twice the size of the iguana)
5. Proper diet ( Someone will post a list here)
6. DO NOT USE ITEMS:
1. HOT ROCKS
2. Bark,gravel,sand,pine mulch as substrate
3. small tank or cage
4. Mirrors
5. Commerical foods
7. STANDARD yearly Vet list:
1. fecal exams twice a year (required)
2. blood work once a year (recommended)
3. X-ray (recommended if blood labs are not
good)
8. Direct sunlight during the summer months (required)
9. This forum daily (recommended)
That's just about the basics for understanding the start of your education, but I'd recommend continuing to do research on an on going bases and this forum is a great start.
Let me know if you'd like me to start looking for you, I just need your location to get going.
Best wishes,
HD
