Funny how things can change sooo dramatically in just a few years....;) Believe it or not, our vet told us to use TUMS. He DID warn that overuse could lead to toxicity/seizure issues so we only use it for a week or so while we're getting a new arrival in. During and after that, we push the collards heavily. It seems to work just fine as we actually used Dharma as a "test subject". Withing a 4 week period she went from an abnormally low Ca level to slightly high which the vet thought was actually good since she was reparing massive amounts of damage during that time.
Within that 4 week period she went from dragging her belly and just barely sllithering along to raising up on all fours and tearing through the house. Just after Christmas she actually started to CLIMB again and these days we can't stop her. She's even re-learning to use what's left of her tail for balancing.....
Now keep in mind that there are probably better calcium suppliments out there (neo-calglucon, Repti- cal ??) Honestly, since this worked for us we haven't gone back to look recently. I've got a sneaky feeling that HD will be able to throw more info at you if no one else can...;)
Just one example... Take it with a few alfalfa pellets instead of salt grains....;)
