I walked into a new pet store in Wilson, NC and what I saw made me SICK! There has got to be laws
against the way reptiles are treated or something that can be done?? Does Humane society have laws governing reptile stores??
Anyway, heard they sold reptiles, so checked it out, in the corner of small store there were about 20 ten gallon tanks, only 1 had a heat light, and that was over a Uromastyx.
There was a Tegu, 3 iguanas, skinks, few other lizards, no heat light or UVB whatsoever!! The 3 iguanas did have 1 hotrock in there, 1 iguana was pure brown and sick looking.
I asked her where was the heat lights, she said she keeps it 80 in the store, so it is OK, I told here she was wrong. She also claimed here reptiles are kept no longer than a week(they probably die).
Asked her about UVB, said she didn't sell the fluorescents, people were still getting used to the incadescents(what a lie). I had to contain myself, before actually going off! I offered some info, that she really didn't want to
hear! I was personally gonna buy some crickets, but I will buy nothing from that horrible store and recommend it to no one! There has gotta be something that can be done! These reptiles are not even given what they need to survive.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated! I sure hope she improves her conditions. Thanks.
