Perhaps it would be best if pet stores told the truth but we all know that this wont happen. HD I agree with you. I have to say that I love Stone but I feel horrible for having bought him... when I couldve adopted!!! I plan to adopt an adult as soon as my basement is finished. And now I educate as many ppl as I can about iguanas. When I was a teen I had an adult ig that I bought from a pet store... she cost $75.00 back then. Nowadays they sell igs for 7.00 !!!! My sister got sucked in at the boardwalk... and now she is regretting that she bought them there... but she was not aware at the time - now she knows better. The major obstacle in getting pet stores to STOP selling igs is trying to get the word out to the consumer! If people stop buying them, stores will not sell them. And although many of us here got them from evil pet shops... now we know better. And now we have to educate others.
The other day I was tempted to buy another iglet... its at a local pet store... and he looks like death warmed over. I knew I could save him. But I didnt BUY him because it would only prompt this store to buy more. Although they sell all the right stuff for igs, they dont use it on the ones they are selling. Go figure. And when you try to tell the store owner - they dont care. My advice to everyone who is concerned about iguanas in pet stores is to educate the consumer on your own. Spread the word.
Not all pet stores are bad though... there is one near me that sells iglets... but they have a full grown one in a set up in the store (named Mr. Peepers) so you can SEE what your little 4 inch baby will turn out to be like. They tell you the truth... sell you the right things... but they are one in a million - most arent like this.
